September Free Disposal
Out with the old, in with the new! Due to the amazing success of April’s FREE Invasive Weed Disposal event, we will host two additional free disposal days in September ahead of our fall Native Plant Sale.
Bring your weeds to the Bainbridge Disposal Vincent Road Transfer Station on Sunday, September 23 and 30 from 10 am to 4 pm, and the Land Trust will cover the cost of disposal! Key invasive plant targets are Scotch broom, English holly, English ivy, Himalayan blackberry, tansy ragwort, English laurel and the noxious weeds on the county’s “Dirty Dozen” list. Please do not mix in non-invasive yard waste.
If you have invasive weeds left over from April or you weren’t able to make it to the dump, this is a great opportunity to do a bit more yard clean-up and make room for new native plants. It is important to re-plant areas where invasives have been removed so that the weeds don’t come back even stronger than before, and fall is the best time to plant.
Invasive plant species are one of the leading causes of vegetation biodiversity loss. They spread quickly and can displace native plants, prevent new native plant growth, and create monocultures. Lack of diversity among native plants reduces the quality and quantity of fish and wildlife habitat.
